Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)

Introducing MFA!

In today's evolving online landscape, protecting your data is harder - and more important - than ever. As part of Fringe’s ongoing commitment to maintaining your data privacy and the security of our application, we are thrilled to introduce Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) to all our end-users. This feature will be enabled later this year for all users who log in to Fringe directly with a username and password and is an exciting addition to our existing security features, which include our Trust page, our SOC 2 assessment, annual penetration testing and more!

What is Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)?

Multi-Factor Authentication is a robust security mechanism that adds an additional layer of protection to your online accounts. While traditional “single-factor” authentication relies solely on a username and password, MFA requires you to provide two or more ‘pieces of evidence’ (aka factors) to verify your identity. This typically includes something you know (like a password), something you have (like a mobile device or security token), or something you are (like a fingerprint or facial scan). By requiring multiple factors, MFA significantly reduces the risk of unauthorized access, even if your password is compromised. In our case, Fringe is rolling out SMS-based MFA, which just involves sending a short code to your phone that you’ll use in addition to your password. In future releases, we hope to include more factors including Google Authenticator and tokens.

Why is MFA Important for You?

  • Protect your points: With cyber threats becoming increasingly sophisticated, relying solely on passwords can leave your accounts vulnerable. MFA acts as a barrier, making it much harder for unauthorized individuals to breach your Fringe account.
  • Protect your data: Your online interactions often involve sharing sensitive or personal information, like your credit card, physical address or phone number. MFA helps ensure that only authorized personnel can access this private data.

Getting Started with MFA:

Enrolling in MFA for your Fringe account is straightforward and user-friendly. Our platform will guide you through the process, which relies on text messages to your mobile phone with unique codes to help validate your identity. Rest assured, the extra steps involved in the authentication process are a small price to pay for the peace of mind and confidence you'll gain in knowing that your data is secure - your Fringe points are safe and ready for your next purchase!
