How Turo Leveraged Fringe to Scale its Culture & Enhance Employee Benefits Globally
The Company
Turo, the world’s largest car sharing marketplace, operates across the US, UK, Canada, Australia, and France. With a vision to revolutionize the way people travel, Turo connects guests with the perfect car for any occasion while empowering hosts to build flexible, scalable car sharing businesses. Since partnering with Fringe in September 2020, Turo has tripled in size, showcasing the company’s rapid growth and global expansion.
Turo’s dedicated team of 900+ employees drives forward its mission to put the world’s 1.5 billion cars to better use. Turo has also consistently been recognized as a Top Workplace for several years, a testament to its commitment to employee satisfaction and company culture.

The Challenge
Before implementing Fringe, Turo faced several challenges in providing employee benefits:
- An Under-Performing Gym Stipend: Turo’s previous wellness program included a gym stipend, but it failed to achieve high engagement. Many employees found the perk too limited, as it didn't account for different preferences or lifestyles, especially for remote and international team members. Turo needed a more flexible and inclusive solution that went beyond physical fitness and allowed employees to choose wellness options that aligned with their individual needs and routines.
- Catering to a Diverse, Global Workforce: When Turo launched Fringe, their employees were spread across three countries—US, UK, and Canada. As they have since expanded to Australia and France, Turo needed a benefits platform capable of offering personalized options that catered to a culturally and generationally diverse workforce across all locations.
- Scaling Benefits Administration Efficiency: As a rapidly growing company, Turo required a scalable solution that would streamline HR operations without overwhelming their already busy team, especially with a desire for global consistency.
- Enhancing Employee Engagement with Customized Perks: Turo sought to develop a benefits program that truly resonated with its workforce, moving beyond traditional wellness offerings. They aimed to provide diverse perks that would appeal to employees’ unique needs and interests, ultimately driving higher engagement and satisfaction across their global team.

The Solution
Led by Lorie Boyd, Turo’s Chief People Officer—an award-winning leader with a proven track record in guiding people teams through hyper-growth—Turo partnered with Fringe to transform its employee benefits program.
As part of this transformation, Turo implemented a $50/month incentive for all employees to invest in their well-being, demonstrating their commitment to fostering a supportive and healthy work environment. Since then, additional programs have been employed through Fringe as well.
